Happy Anniversary...To Us!

Joe and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary this weekend with our usual traditional photo shoot.

In front of St. Appollonaris in Napa where we were married.

In the courtyard at Embassy Suites where the reception was held.

Mini Joe or what???

Sand Harbour Beach

We tried out a new beach this weekend that is on the northern side of the lake. The sand is much finer and the wind is calmer. What a perfect day!

Grandma Kia watching the kiddos climb the rocks.

Auntie Laura and Kaden looking for crawdads.

Trying to catch some minnows with the nets

View of Lake Tahoe off the point at Sand Harbour.

Kath and Eli hiking around on the huge boulders that surround the beach.

Our little surfer dude!

Labor Day in Tahoe

Long weekend in Tahoe with our dear friends the Pereira's. The last hurrah in Tahoe for our god daughter Brianda who was leaving for college in a few weeks. We went to one of our favorite spots - Angora Lake. Tinoly and Brianda get ready for a ride around the lake.

Hi girls!

Brianda made a friend who was not a bit shy in coming to see what she was eating.

Eli spotted a kid with a fishing pole and no more than 10 minutes later he was "carrying" it for him. Sophie watches as Eli takes a shot at catching some trout.

Eli finally had to give it back!

The Pereira's at Emerald Bay

Eli and Sophia take a rest from our small hike to the Eagle Falls.

Catching some serious hammock time. They look pretty relaxed, no?

There are miles of bike trails up in Tahoe and we decided to drive up to the North Shore and take the path that goes from Tahoe City to Squaw Valley Ski Resort. Not a very long ride but absolutely gorgeous!

Truckee River.

Eli taking one of the many, many breaks during the ride.

No people on the water today as it was like ice.

Portuguese Tradition

This annual event is held by Joe's uncle Helio and aunt Maria at their ranch in Napa. Over 300 people attend this all day event filled with traditional Portuguese music, food and camaraderie.
This years celebration was held in Lina's honor.

Joe's sister Lina carries the crown in the family procession to the mass.

Joe's cousin Joe carries the Holy Ghost flag.

Eli being crowned by the priest which is a form of a blessing.

Joe's turn.

A birds eye view of the party.

The meat and cabbage cooking in the back in preparation for the sopas. A traditional Portuguese 'stew' which consists of bread, meat, broth, cabbage and mint.

The sopas before the broth is added. The meat is added at the table. Deeeelish!

Santa Cruz

Casey and Eli didn't waste any time breaking out the Legos!

Our day didn't start out with the sun but in the afternoon it came out! Wow!

Eli and Casey body surfing and boogie boarding

Hannah, Jayne, Eli and Casey enjoying the frigid water! Hard to see in this picture but there is a black spot behind the kids that is a seal checking them out!

Gotta love that morning fog!

The whole gang heading out to the tide pools

After the sun came out again.

Shawn finally caught one ticked off crab.

Beautiful tide pools.
